I'll bet you can't tell where our next shoot was. Upon arrival we were met with this huge mountain the looked nothing like the surrounding peaks. Quite inspiring, but not enough to make me want to climb it. There were a couple of (brave, stupid) souls about half way up with the natural light fading. I would suggest seeing it at least once. Well worth the trip. Saw plenty of Antelope, wild horses, and the likes Mo was like a little kid on her 1st vacation. Shote on the way to the peak for this.

Not trying to bore you with so many shots of seemingly the same place, but there were so many. This docile looking horse that you see, all of a sudden staring charging right at me! it ran between myself and another lady who chose to lay down. I still don't understand why, but;s that's people for you. Once the horse passed about a foot it reared up on its hind legs , then its front ones and just walked away. Shot at the same ranch, A bit of unexpected thrill for me!

We went to the museum today and they had the usual suspects on display. But the thing I thought to be strange was the fact that they had such a large African section. I don't know what to make of the fact that 2 lions are getting their lunch together. What has that got to to do with Nevada? Any ideas? This a fairly new attraction in the experience, It' basically a zip line that runs about 40' or so. this it the place you buy your ticket to ride it, Haven't ridden it yet so the votes still out on the fun-meter. It's fairly inexpensive to ride, ( I heard the heavier people get the best ride), ya' know weight gravity thing. Shot at the experience. Got some good shots coming up soon, so hang in there.

Feels great to be back on the old part of Vegas! But there are a few more new items to ponder, for those over "21" and still hooked to video games like "football or basketball this place is new. It's a bar and video lounge. With up to date equipment. Popped in to take a look and Mo had to play galaga before we left. But it has huge screens and clean looking controllers. This is but a small piece of what will be burning at the :Burning man" festival held around the end of Sept., beginning of Oct. People go to a predesignated spot out in the northern desert to ley off steam, get too high and generally do thins that aren't normally allowed. It's like a giant weekend high feat that is ignored by the authorities. This is the statue of a lady called " Lucky Lady Lucy, and no I don't know how the name came to be so don't ask. It's being built in Vegas at a small park to be moved at a alter date. Shot at this little pa where they hold 1st Friday every month. See Ya'

You step stepping into the same lands that some of the great people actually used themselves! Kinda gives you the old time feeling that you can almost can see a cowboy, or even better yet a bandit, like "Billy thr Kid, or the James brothers, Jesse and Frank. Maybe you can find some remnants of the good Fella" days. Believe me they're still there just waiting for you to find it. It's very quiet after dark and let's not B.S here. It's always slow! And quiet. (away from the strip) Don't let the population fool you

This doesn't account for all in the desert somewhere, from cowboys to gangsters, to just ordinary folk who let the land win.. And then there's this guy who down of his luck, but doesn't quit the music he loves! We need more spirit like those who don't take life so seriously. Sure He'd probably would like a place of his own. Sure he got dealt a crappy deal in life,(No quit here) but adjusted to it, sometimes can be really hard, or possibly the opening he needed. Look at him is he just playing for himself Did we let him down, Most likely. just one of many more homeless, sick, because he can't afford a DR.? Or is he someone who just quit on society that probably let him down just one to many times? Next time your at a fast food joint, get a extra hamburger. Take some of that pile of clothes you won't wear.AND donate. There are tax savings here also. The pluses are endless and the feeling you get by helping a homeless person, My personal choice is the military. They've down so much for our country to be treated as they are do.(Should be against the law Every other group does, Dude these are returning warriors! Some with all they left with, alot who didn't. Is its someone down on their luck. OR is he just enjoying the day by playing for himself?? Is this you or someone who feels that way. A typical night at 1st Friday! It's always insane there. We took a colleague of Mo's for her 1st visit, she was like a kid in a candy store. I don't think she blinked once while she was there. It's mayhem and a photographers delight! This shot doesn't do justice for what happens there, all the freaks like superman, batman, star war characters, etc. were all there, they vacate the strip for awhile to become part of the in saneness that is 1st Friday. Do your self a favor and get down there at least once, I'm sure you'll return for more. It's every 1st Friday of the month, so plan on being there. All the local artists are there to supplant the freaks. Shot somewhere in the crowd.

Now here's a sign you won't see in your park restroom. Obviously it's in a park near a lake, and fishing is an acceptable place. But all we saw was empty poles, with the wrong bait, pole etc. but it still is a nice way to spend some time with your family. Or do what is the most popular past time, drinking! But back to the sign. I found it humorous to see this . a public restroom, seeing as how many I've seen along my my travels. this would be a minor problem. with graffiti using the floor and scratching names on stainless steel mirror;s that look like those fun mirrors at the carnivals. Just a final thought on the triathlon, I was a little worried when I started seeing Hawks flying overhead near the start/finish line. As I've learned over the years, these birds don't waste energy sightseeing! So, put 2+2 together, and lunch should have been served. I didn't actually see the hawks carry anyone away, but just the thought of these guys flying over you would seem to me, motivation enough to crawl over the finish line! Just a thought. This was taken at the springs preserve in L.V. on this ground there is an old water derrick which is supposed to be the birth place of Las Vegas. Originally this was a stop, a water hole kind of place the the Mormons used on their way to California. By the looks of things their idea didn't last to long before the entrepreneurs stepped in. The derrick is still there. We went as a guest of her company and the 1st time they allowed dogs on the premises. Good healthy lunch a few demos from the sheriff office on their dogs, (police dogs). we did some walking around and took lots of photos of desert plants that are native to the area and a few that survive here but are from neighboring states. P.T. Cause and Effect part 5 in a series Ending

Well I finally finished with my physical therapy, and guess what. My shoulder is worse than before!, My only recourse at this point is to get shoulder replacement. Believe me that's not an option I want to explore, again no guarantees, or even any positive talk of it getting better. So now I have 5 little holes in my shoulder, no tendons to support and more pain then before. I've lost to much weight and now have the look of someone stealing my spoon at dinner time, not to mention the gap where the tendons used to be. No more surgeries unless I'm unconscious already and don;t know about it.
So the journey ends on my travels through surgery and P.T. I hope I didn't bore you with anything boring, I just wanted to put out the word on any surgery you might be contemplating. My regular blog will be back on Wednesday. I'm going to a new format of Mon., wed., Fri., routine for awhile and see how that works out, Other than that I continue going to the various clinics the V.A. wants me to do. These actually work, See ya' on wed.! Oh, sorry the dog is Suzi our pet and bed side companion.

P.T. Cause and Effect part 4 in a series

Just trying to mosey through the P.T. Believe me that's easier said than done! I'm really beginning to think physical therapists must have lost their jobs as interrogators for the Army, I shudder to think that there's going to be water boarding sometime soon. I did my strengthening and stretching on Wednesday, but it takes 2 days to recover from the pain. But I did learn some new exercises and they are helping my shoulder move around a little better, You would think there would be a less painful way of doing this. I can now move my arm further than when I 1st went in.

I thought about calling the local news people, you know, for some kind of cult in here.But refrained from this.

I wonder what's up with the lock on the door?
Is it to keep me in or others out, (ya' know)
with the screaming like a little girl type of cry. Just kidding, actually the therapy is going good. My arm (other than the pain) is coming along, we're shooting for 80% of what I had before. Not an unreasonable goal, but a hard one to get to. The shoulder moves around like a bad fitting ball and cup. In other words it's a sloppy fit now. I also now have a popping sound in my shoulder when I move it a certain way. Well see ya' on Monday! Have a stress free weekend on me.

P.T. Cause and Effect part 3 in a series

This thought just came to me, I have worked in construction of one form or another and now I'm being held together with 4 screws. There just has to be some irony in that! Wednesday was a tough day to be me. I did the same stretches, but a couple more were added on. These involved torturing me until I reached a previously unknown pain level. All done without drugs to stifle the pain. I got through it, but paid the price later. As shown in the picture here.

I didn't know just moving my arm could cause so much havoc in the upper part of my body. And Monday the cursed one, my P.T. lady, She's very nice. But I think there's an evil twin who pops out when I show up. In other words she enjoys the pain as much as I enjoy the ice at the end.
I do know there's a rainbow somewhere in my future, but that seems a very long time from now.

I know I'm just whining, but it helps get back at my P.T. somehow. Next chapter is on Monday, I'll let you know how that went! Somebody please have a good weekend on my behalf.

It was part of the junk I explained on Monday.
It is in the back as part of the lower shoulder.

This view shows the front part, I learned the shoulder has something like 256 things that make the rest of your left side work, ( I found out painfully that you use the left shoulder when you brush your teeth!). The larger mass is screwed into the bone just a little lower than it was before. The smaller mass also is a little lower and screwed in.I don't have the bicep shot, but that was cut and put somewhere else and reattached, it now creates what I call "the Popeye muscle, (bicep). Monday all I did was stretch to find out my range of motion, The verdict was "better than we thought. I used a pulley and a very large kinda of beach ball for this, I did Fine after they iced my shoulder, But when I got home, it's been pain for the last 2 days.

On Wednesday I start the :strengthening: part of my P.T. Oh joy I can't wait!! I know I'm probably going to stretch and strengthen more than I should, But my very personality dictates going to a level higher than I should reach for. What to do, what to do. Like always I will go that extra inch and lift the extra weight just because that's me.

I thought some props were in order here, they have an excellent staff with nice people who actually want to help you. Sadly, there's not enough of that in today's world.

But if you look around real hard, you can still find a giant peppermint stick to ease the pain! I'll be back on Friday with the next report on "strengthening". I probably will be sore and hate it, but the end result will dictate my usefulness down the road. Remember to go and have that injury √'d out sooner rather than later!

P.T. Cause and Effect part 1 in a series

Well, I've endured the surgery, made it through the 8 weeks of wearing a sling. But now begins the fun part, P.T. (physical therapy)! I'm going to use my blog to take you through the toughest thing I've encountered in my life. So, let's start with the cause. Basically I was playing baseball and was the 1st base-man, a bad throw caused me to stretch for it, and leave my foot on the base. I completed the play as I had always been able to do. Unfortunately, I was at full stretch and landed on my arm pit. This caused me to pretty much destroy my shoulder, rotator cuff, tendons, muscle etc. I didn't know at the time the extent of the problem, but should have made a mental note of it. Of course I didn't. Well time passed and my job required heavy lifting of security doors for display in the local hardware store, which in turn aggravated the problem. This went on for about 3 years until the pain finally won out. Went to the DR. and learned what I had done to my shoulder. More specifically the rotator cuff. (for all) get the surgery immediately if you can. The longer it goes the worse the shoulder gets. (I know that now). Well I saw a arthroscopic specialist and learned my fate, Total junk in my left shoulder! But we came to the conclusion to do the surgery and try and save what he could. Bad news! He went in and found what he said would be there, JUNK! He did what he could, but in the process I lost most of the muscles in there, he could only screw them to the bone (4 screws later) and hope p.t. can do the rest. 3 weeks of intense pain, 2 weeks of a little lesser pain, and 8 weeks total of the sling, and now p.t.. I have already been told this is going to hurt alot! Not my strong suit, I can take a alot of pain, some stupidly I.E. waiting on the surgery so long. But this is going to be a new kind of pain. Basically teaching me how to use my left arm again. So my new journey begins tomorrow, I have about 40% use of my arm now and am shooting for 80%. So for anyone with this problem might just want to tag along on this, it will be interesting to say the least.

It's going to be a long road ahead, 16 visits.

There will be some dark times also.

In honor of Pearl Harbor who I had the greatest luck in having actually met one of them! I think for one day we can lay off the sales and such till tomorrow. I can't believe they're coming out with a new game called "warcraft" today!

Just a side note: My arm still isn't quite up to snuff yet, so the blogs have been sparse, But don't fret, I'll make a comeback soon, with new adventures.

Oh, and cook away from the house lest you set it on fire. this one is from one of many festivals we had the pleasure of eating at during the year, (in other words) I don't remember where I shot it. Tip 2 The cops are all over the place right about now. From what I can gather, you can test under the limit for alcohol and still be charged with drunk driving! How did we miss that one?

Sorry, I've been feeling a little under the weather lately, but it looks like it's starting to clear. So with any luck I'll start posting regularly again. So the holiday season is here, (mostly) due to bad sales the previous years it starts coming earlier! At this pace we'll be shopping for Xmas right after the 1st of the year! So what good is a road if you can't use it? This is down the street from our house, I think it's for the Sun City/ Aliante people who live there. Typical Vegas, Build a road that doesn't seem to be usable. We do that alot around here. That is why there are so many cones all the time, They start a project knowing they don't have the funds to finish it. That way they can keep opening (a play on words) and building them and then go before the commission and ask for more money to finish it. We as citizens complain about all the cones and an unfinished road, Than they get the money and continue. Final cost being alot more then when they started. Shot at the "end" of Grand Teton.

Just an assortment of posters found at "Emergency Arts" downtown. Shot just before the experience downtown.Emergency Arts used to be a out patient clinic, now its been converted to a coffee house with a diverse collection of artists. They use the old rooms as their studio's, complete with the old "little sticks that poke out from the wall. Today these color code your chart instead. They even have old vinyl records for sale, but the albums are a lot more expensive nowadays.

I normally don’t post my political views on the net. It’s something I keep to me, myself, and I. But for this I can’t bite my tongue any longer! What NPR did to Juan Williams was a travesty! They didn’t even have the stones to fire him in person; they sent an underling to do it. He worked at NPR as a political analyst for over 10 yrs. and he was very good at it. But they fired him for speaking the truth on Fox news.I really didn't agree with his philosophy much. But as I said he is an excellent orator and political analyst.
And then to just fire him willy-nilly is something even I have no comment to, I’m too shocked at the handling of all this. If you have donated to them in the past, please stop. If you are going to donate to them and/or continue to give them your money, shame on you! Write your congress and have them stop funding this organization. Ironic, after George Soros gives them $1.8 mil. That he’s fired within days of that, hmm… And what was their comment on all this? The firing came at a bad time while we’re in our “funding” week (that’s when they beg for money from us)! The ironic part-- he was their only man of color on staff, glad to see they're doing all they can for the plight of people of color!

Kind of makes you think, doesn't it? Part of a mural painted on the wall in the parking lot of the bistro bar. How come it seems that all graffiti nowadays has to have the theme of hoodlum? Or some dark inner thought. It might be just me, but I don't see the fun anymore, only dark stuff. Notice the guy in the background with the hooded sweat on, the hood is up showing darkness and the pose in the sitting position to me shows "against" something. Where are the happy ones? This is probably the last day for this fella', He was dying in my neighbors driveway, (as you can see). I didn't want him to just get run over by my neighbor so I pushed him into the bush next to the driveway, where I think his final breaths will be. Obviously he's a tarantula common to the southwest. When you drive into the hills or lower mountains and you see those little holes on the hills, they are the home to some tarantula. A fun fact! I could give a lot more detail on the type, the sot location and what it means, but He's almost dead and doesn't care who knows about him. Shot next door to my house. Well it looks like not everyone who attended this event "Guinness record for the largest Margarita" Is a Margarita drinker. Some like me ventured over to the tent with the non-alcoholic beverages. I still haven't gotten the final tally whether or not we won, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out. It does look good on the size and amount. Here's the sign from the "Fear and Loathing" protest? /category. We went there because you could take a picture of a politician and bleach their photo, with of course bleach! I did John Ensign the republikcan senator form our state, he's at the bottom of this blog. I tried to impose a nuclear explosion with a burn mark on the side of his face. You be the judge, did I pull it off? (Funny there were only Republikans to choose from) Must just be me, it couldn't have been a biased event geared towards the right, Could it? Anywhere Mo and I did our thing and they are supposed to post them on some other blog and notify us of it. Seemed pretty lame to me that's the best they could come up with a couple weeks from the primaries.

No. I didn't just get back from a world wide tour of the desert. I liked this shot of the front of the Luxor. The inside didn't do much for me, Every available spot inside has an ad on it. To commercial for me, since they changed the theme from Egyptian to it's current theme, (which I haven't a clue). The place is just one big commercial! The water that used to run through it is gone, the theme is gone, even the laser lights on the outside are gone!it's just foreign people who haven't caught on yet that the place is falling behind the upscale new style that Vegas is offering now. Well it's that time of year again. When the weather gets a little colder and the hot chocolate tastes a little better. It's also time again to visit our good friend Sandy out at Death Valley Junction. She does a show out there on the weekends, that originally was just a fill-in for her friend Marta (broke her hip). But now has turned into a show of her own with Marta (inspiration) making a cameo/film in it. I would recommend making the trip at least once. This place has history, including a haunted hotel that made an appearence on the travel channel.

Did you ever wonder how many colors M & M has? Well here's a good representation of that. There are to many colors to get in one shot, or maybe even 2. You can do pretty much whatever you can do with an M & m here, including personalizing them! I saw people put all kinds of personal sayings and messages while we were there. They also have a limitless supply of dispensers! If you go to Vegas, make this one of your stops, it brings the kid out of all of us. Shot at the factory on the strip.
